You'll find the cheaper brands / models have fixed rollers.  That said, even the big heavy 21" Honda's and KAAZ mowers etc have fixed rollers and they are used by pro's

:hmm: roller apart and split...but no ratchet i was expecting.....I took an old hayter apart last year and inside the roller were 2 'bicycle type rear wheel ratchets'but inside tis one nothing...so the question is ..do they or is it a split roller that is locked...there is a 'joiner in between the halves'with locating slots..it was just awkward to turn when it went on its maiden voyage last week...thanks for helping

Don't think I've taken one of those rollers apart myself, but the parts list does show two roll pins, one at each end. So yes they will need to be knocked out.

well i got bored and decided to check out the rear roller...its a split roller but is not ratcheting if that makes sense...so its as one...no good for turning...i have the roller out and i want to seperate the two halves...there are 2 plastic collers  stopping me and im not sure how they come off...I can see a pin..is it a case for drifting them out the dont seem to have a allen head or similar....

No worries Mick.  My fault for not picking up your reply sooner!

What specifically am I looking for, and I can trawl the web.

Suffolk Recoil Starter Pulley
Pawls - Do these have a more specific name?

Thanks

Nice one noddy.   I should cut my grass but it's too damp and dreary out there for me. Can't wait for Spring to be honest.
