Briggs & Stratton Carb / Tank Problem

Hi all, I've been repairing mowers for several years but came across a problem with a B & S engine It takes the very common tank / carb setup shown.
Anyway, despite replacing the gaskets on the carb, I cannot get it to pump fuel from the tank to prime it. I then decided to buy a brand new tank / carb, but even that will not suck up the fuel to prime the carb. I'm guessing it's something to do with the pipe attached to the engine itself that's the problem? Grateful for your help!

Hi Kevin, and welcome to TGMForum.

Any mower that I've had in for repair with one of those cheap amazon carbs on has had this issue, I don't actually think I've got my hands on one that worked properly.  As we are briggs service dealers we would only fit a genuine carb.   Your one might work if you wet it up, submerge it completely in fuel and pump the primer.

Hi Mick,
Thanks for that. I also was using the original carb / tank with new diaphragms but still the same issue. If I put a little petrol in the carb by hand, off it goes! I'll try what you said
