Hi I'm quite the novice in mowers and I have got the fascination in getting my lawn perfect, anyway I bought myself a qualcast 35s to renovate and make good again everything is good except I struggle to set the carb for the idle I bought a aftermarket two screw carb to skip cleaning the original carb, in idle is fine and when I move the lever to the rabbit / higher rpm it runs a little at higher speed then The governor kicks in and shuts the paddle killing the engine, do you have any tips for me and am I overthinking the speed control is this used to control speed or should you always run the lawn mower in high rpm when in use

Mick

Hi Andy, and welcome to TGMForum.

When you say two screw carb, you mean it has screw in the very bottom and one on the side + the idle speed screw?

If yes, then to set the carb, run at hight speed on the control, unscrew the bottom screw until it starts running rich like the choke is on, then slowly turn the screw in until it evens out and runs as smooth as you can get it. Then you can set the idle if needed, again turning side screw in or out until it runs smooth.

The operating speed shouldn't be too high on a cylinder mower, just set it to a suitable walking pace, it shouldn't need to be flat out.
