Hi I am in the process of replacing the wheel bearings on an old Hayterette and on removing the wheels on both sides the inner bearings are held by the lip on the axle on the one side the bearing has free movement before hitting the lip. Trying to understand how they were fitted in the first place.I expected both inner bearings to be installed in the wheels when removing the wheels as is the case in the front wheels. Can anyone explain how this could happen and method in removing apart from cutting them off.
Many thanks
Aldy

Hi Aldy, and welcome to TGMForum.

The bearings would normally be a push fit in each side of the wheels.  Then they would simply slide onto the stub axles and the nut tightened just enough to remove any play in the wheel.

I suspect your bearing are just stuck on the stubs and the stubs need a good clean up an deburr with a strip of emery cloth before trying to pull them off.  Once you get them off clean the shafts again where the stuck bearings sat.  Use a small two legged puller or a bearing separator to get the off if stuck.
