:( Good morning all. I have a Hobby 41 mower with a Tecumseh BV153 engine. Beautiful little mower until.......I stopped it to empty the grass box and it would not restart. Checked petrol..all ok Removed plug only to find no spark.I had a new spare plug so fitted, still no go. I have now removed the ignition coil, cleaned magnet faces etc and still nothing.I now want to buy another coil but am unsure of the type etc.I have looked on eBay and there are plenty but all seem to be the same number. Any help would be very much appreciated, either new or where I could get a good s/h one. Many thanks.Graham

Hi Graham.

Always a bit of a minefield when it comes to these cheap compatible coils, but that's really the only choice you have nowadays.  I really cant tell you which ones are good or bad, it's a gamble tbh.

Something like this might be ok, and cheap enough should it be a dud. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/20036909581?msockid=25075962f8a8606b34554f4af98f6177

The stuff from HIPA, GHS, or L&S are normally good but I don't see that coil in stock on those sites. Sorry I'm not much help on this one.

Thanks anyway for your reply and help Mick. Would you think that technically the example you have given would be the same electrically. In other words is a coil a coil as long as it fits OK

Well yes and no, the one from my link should fit your engine, in fact someone in the feedback actually fitted one on the same machine as you.  But it's like most stuff nowadays, these knockoff coils are all made in China and I'm even betting a lot of theme come out the same factory.  The stuff isn't made like it used to be and with that comes the risk, but at that cost it's probably worth it.
