morning all....i have a mountfield rs100 that refuses to cut out...even if i replace the kill wire on the coil to any earth.....i assume the coil has failed although starts an runs well...just wont stop....am i right?

Mick

If the wire is good and making a good earth and still wont cut out it's got to be a faulty coil.  Make sure the coil is grounded and not sitting on a load of corrosion.

Remove the coil and clean up the posts and bolts, check again maybe with a new piece of test wire touch it directly anywhere on the engine casing and see if it kills engine.

 thanks for the quick reply.....cheers

Mick

Actually thinking about this, I'm trying to think about the coil layout on that machine, just I had a Chinese engine with a similar issue and that had a bad earth between the actual coil and the metal body that is was pressed onto, and this was causing it not to shutdown.  I've got a picture and video of it somewhere on here.  I'll try and find it and edit this post with a link to it.

Found it.  It's for a SV 100 not a RV 100 but it might be similar https://thegardenmachineryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=721.0

It's a Chinese made engine, to be honest they run very nicely when carb etc is good. I quite like them.
