Re: The decomp. yes the compression release that lift's a valve slightly on start up. If the revs drop too low while idling  it can suddenly kick in.

If so, that is a result of the revs drop, not the cause of the revs drop, I believe.

The revs dropping happens at higher speeds as well.

So I'm still looking the cause of the revs dipping. And there's not much other than the carb.

If I'm honest I try not to go down the pressure washer Rabbit hole, and avoid them like the plague. The cheaper ones will use a very cheaply made pump imo, and even the more expensive stuff isn't made like it used to be.  Gone are the days of using brass, bronze and ceramic parts which can withstand the conditions. 

They are something that needs to be set up and used on a regular basis, don't like being stored away after use because they corrode, and don't like being moved about etc. 

I could be wrong, but if you can find parts for the cheap pumps the parts will probably cost more than a whole pump.

To be honest it's unusual to hear the governor make a clicking sound,  The thing you hear commonly is the decompressor kicking in especially if the revs drop below a certain point at idle speed, The decomp will kick in and the engine will run lumpy. I'm wondering if this is what you're hearing. 

The blades on these things are normally supplied as blades only, which means the shaft will have to be dismantled and old blads and spacers slid off, and new ones slid back on in the same order as they came off.  Where you'll find some is a difficult question for me to answer.  Allen didn't really make much themselves and usually branded other other makes to Allen.

Blads would commonly have either a square or a hex hole in the middle to fit the shaft, and have a tubular spacer between each blade.

Well, I think the tick I hear is actually the governer kicking in. So that's the result of the drop in revs, not the cause. My thinking is coming back to the cheap after market carb. I read stories of drilling out the jet(s).

Found some reference to the engine being a 9.5HP, and these aftermarket carbs not being jetted large enough straight out of the factory due to some regs so need drilling.

But... I refitted the refurbished deck yesterday and found the belt was too long. The replacement belt is listed as 52" OD. Measured this one and it is 52". Well worn, but the correct length. This strongly suggests I've got something wrong with the multitide of brackets when re-fitting the deck, but it looks to be correct. Goes up and down parallel to the ground, and is central on the machine.

Unfortunately cannot find any pics showing the same assortment of brackets that I have.

Working away for a few days so I'll have another look at it when I have the chance.

Off Topic Petrol pressure washer spares.

HI All I know its off topic. I've had a couple of requests to repair the cheap petrol Aldi/Lidl petrol pressure washers.
The engine parts I can get and the engines seem bullet prof.
Can the pump parts be purchased or is it the whole pump?
I have seen 2 now here the pump oil is contaminated as it runs, looks like a seal gone.
They both built pressure but not as much as I would expect. Seem a shame to scrap them.

Thanks Mick, good advice I ordered a flywheel and its made no difference. I have a qualcast Tecumseh engine I'm going to try , fingers crossed this will get my old neighbour mowing again.
