Hi all, I have a stihl mains electric hedge trimmer which is starting to struggle to start the blades. I assume that there is some sort of clutch? I have stripped it down, but cannot work out which bit is worn!! Can anyone advise what parts are normally required for this? Thanks! Matt

Mick

Hi Matt, and welcome to TGMForum.

Do you have the model number of the hedge trimmer?  Does the motor start and leave the blades stationery, or does it do nothing at all when you switch it on?

EDIT: Apologies Model number was in the subject line.  I will take a peek at the parts list and post back.

Hi Mick.  It is actually running OK, but it is starting to struggle to run the blades.  The motor runs fine, it just doesnt sometimes engage.  I thought better a stitch in time!

Matt.  Sorry for delay, I confused myself when I got to work thinking it was a HLE71, which I am familiar with.  But yours is a HLE71 which apart from an electrical fault I haven't repaired a gearbox on one.

It does appear to have some sort of clutch arrangement on it though, as you hopefully can see in this parts breakdown here. https://www.diyspareparts.com/parts/stihl/diagrams/hse-71/602322e7-bdd8-4312-98f8/

You would have to weigh up whether it's going to be economical to repair.

Hi, thanks for that.  I have had this years and assumed it must be pretty pricey as it has done a fair bit of work.  But a new one is only £ 190.  I think its beyond economical repair.....  Very well made inside, which makes it a shame...
