Site Feedback / Forum Suggestion
August 02, 2023, 04:36:33 PM
This is a great forum but for example if you want lawnmower info, there is a general section, an on your bench section and a lawnmower section.

I was wondering if perhaps organising the categories may get the site a few more users?

For example...

Category = Lawnmowers.
Forums inside the category: Honda | Hyundai | Mountfield | Qualcast | Other (all the brands eventually - but you could start with the common and then as people post in the 'other' forum you could add the brand to the list.

Then if you have a problem with a Mountfield lawnmower you simply click lawnmowers > Mountfield and see a list of Mountfield topics.

If you really wanted to be fussy you could have separate forums for electric, cordless, petrol, push.
Example: category = Lawnmowers > forums = electric, cordless, petrol, push > forums = brand name.

The theory behind the suggestion is I was wondering if the search engines would index the site better like that.

Note: I'm not suggesting only making changes to the Lawnmower section, the same could be done for Tilers/Rotavators etc, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, etc etc.

On Your Bench / Hyundai HYM430SP

Hyundai HYM430SP, in good condition, very little marks on the underside of the deck so would assume it's not been heavily used.

Starts on the first pull every time, runs fine when on a straight bit of lawn but sometimes loses power when pushing it up the slightest of slope - even on short grass.

The fuel was drained in November when putting it into storage so the carb shouldn't be clogged but will check later.

The fuel hose seems flimsy and soft - more like a wire cover than a fuel hose and definitely not like the firm feeling of the Briggs & Stratton fuel hoses.

There is a slight kink in the fuel hose, so I'm considering replacing it with some B&S hose.

I have gently put a small cable tie around the kink which will keep the hose in shape while I give it another try.

I recently brought a Qualcast petrol lawnmower which has the Briggs & Stratton 775iS Instart engine.

The lawnmower was a non runner, it came with two batteries, one which is working and one which is completely dead, these days a lot of us like to have a bash at fixing our own stuff, so... I decided to strip it down and see what's inside.

I did spend about an hour looking online through Google, forums, YouTube etc and I couldn't find any pictures or information about what's inside... which is why I have decided to post the pictures here because they may be useful to others.

I'm only allowed to attach 4 pics per post so the first post covers opening the battery up.

Tool needed for opening... Torx T10 security screwdriver...

Note: The T10 security screwdriver needs to be one that has the hole in the middle.

Purchased as a project  ???

Qualcast XSZ53C-SD-E with the Briggs & Stratton 775iS engine, a non runner, I stripped and cleaned the carburettor and the jets, it now starts but has 3 other issues.

XSZ53C-SD-E.jpg

I have fixed a few mowers in the past but it's my first experience with the electric starts.

Issue 1: The engine will never start on the first turn of the key (even with easy start) - it starts perfectly on the second turn.

Issue 2: When it first starts it revs up and down for 20 seconds then runs lovely.

Issue 3: After it has been ran for 20 minutes it won't start again until it cools down - then when it does start get a puff of white smoke.

Replaced the oil and spark plug before doing anything to it, waiting for a new air filter so will see if that makes any difference.

Plan to remove and clean the coil but I'm thinking the issue could be something to do with the auto choke so will investigate that further when I get inside it.
