Site Feedback / Forum Suggestion
August 02, 2023, 04:36:33 PM
This is a great forum but for example if you want lawnmower info, there is a general section, an on your bench section and a lawnmower section.

I was wondering if perhaps organising the categories may get the site a few more users?

For example...

Category = Lawnmowers.
Forums inside the category: Honda | Hyundai | Mountfield | Qualcast | Other (all the brands eventually - but you could start with the common and then as people post in the 'other' forum you could add the brand to the list.

Then if you have a problem with a Mountfield lawnmower you simply click lawnmowers > Mountfield and see a list of Mountfield topics.

If you really wanted to be fussy you could have separate forums for electric, cordless, petrol, push.
Example: category = Lawnmowers > forums = electric, cordless, petrol, push > forums = brand name.

The theory behind the suggestion is I was wondering if the search engines would index the site better like that.

Note: I'm not suggesting only making changes to the Lawnmower section, the same could be done for Tilers/Rotavators etc, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, etc etc.

If someone was to upload the manual online to one of the many free hosts, would there be anything to stop a random user sharing a link to it here on the forum?

Hi,

If it is number 52 on this diagram, they call it a fan:
Qualcast MOW N TRIM - Power Tool Spares.png

https://www.powertoolspares.com/qualcast/lawnmower-mow-n-trim.m/f016t48980/spares

Other names for them are: blade boss, cutting disk, mounting disk, impeller, safety cutting disc.

Not sure if this part is the same as there isn't a picture of the lower side:

This one on eBay looks similar to yours going by the shape / groove in the plastic where the stud came away from.

General Discussion / Re: Stale Petrol

I use it for cleaning my garden equipment or pouring on weeds and ants etc, I also use it to burn tree cuttings as it helps me get the cuttings burnt quickly before the neighbours moan.

I'm sure I've heard that some people mix it with new fuel for their mowers etc so I'd suggest asking on a local Facebook group as there may be someone out there who it may be of some use to.

Or if you're ever heading somewhere that has a nearby car breakers yard, drop it off there.

Quote from: Paul123 on June 09, 2023, 02:13:46 PMStill not sure why it won't start, sounds like it's either not getting a spark

Have you not checked to see if it has a spark?
If you have the starter attached, you can do it by removing the spark plug, attaching the HT lead to the spark plug, then if you have a pair of pliers with rubber handles, use them to gently grip the suppressor cap and hold the spark plug against one of bolts that surrounds the spark plug hole - while someone or you - gently pulls the starter cord, you should see a spark near the electrode.

Removed and refitted all the springs and the original issues seem to all be sorted now.

One new issue developed today when cutting the lawn, after emptying the grass box I went to restart it and nothing happened, totally dead.

Wiggled the wires but nothing happened, put a multimeter on the cable from the ignition key and it beeped every time I turned the key, even after wiggling the cable so don't think it's that.

I read that some Instart mowers had an issue with the wiring harness, does anyone know what was issues it caused?

Quote from: openspaceman on June 07, 2023, 05:07:23 PMDo you know what the device on the incoming main is that has a white (live) wire  and brown wire marked 3MP33951 is, it looks like it may sense the blade passing underneath it?

This break down of the mower may have the answer to that one: https://www.mtmc.co.uk/Bosch-AdvancedRotak-750-/-3600HB9305-/-EU-230-Volt-Spare-Parts__p-159783.aspx

Part 93 looks like it faces downwards towards the blade, which is listed as a thermal protector

Quote from: Changy on June 07, 2023, 12:18:35 PMThe mower starts on the first pull and runs well for about two minutes. Sadly, it then almost stalls, there is a small puff of smoke from the exhaust and then it runs well again.

Years ago on mowers that had the choke lever, if you messed about moving the lever up and down while it was running it would almost stall and you would get the puff smoke like you describe.

Perhaps if yours is the same as the one in this video, you could compare the choke action:

This video may be useful:

The guy had also changed the gasket but still had problems, around 10:25 in to the video he says the problem was caused by the seal rings on the carb, there are 2, 1 black, 1 white.

Apologies for chiming in... just a few suggestions...

1) Assuming you have the model with the rope guide on the handle - have you tried taking the rope out of the guide so the rope goes all the way back in to the starter and then trying to start it?

2) Is your brake lever cable firm?

3) Have you tried starting it with the fuel cap loose?

These Hyundai PDF manual links may be of some use as they have troubleshooting tips:

Brings back memories of my grandads allotment, around 1995 he brought a second hand rotavator, was a well built, strong machine like yours, thing I remember the most about it is that it didn't have a pull string, it had a handle that you turn so many times, then fold it over and let go, like a wind up toy.

Just googled and found a mower with the same kind of thing, the mower is the same colour as grandads rotavator  ;D

Quote from: Mick on May 23, 2023, 08:20:26 PMI did ask the main distributor and they gave a really vague answer which made no sense. So I don't think they knew the answer either. lol..

I was looking on the Power Spares website and noticed a couple of errors in their diagrams too so guess all the suppliers make mistakes lol

Tried the mower today, emptied the grass box twice and it started first time, then the third time I emptied the grass box... it wouldn't start again  :-\  so the issue seems to kick in when it gets hot, I waited 10 mins and then it started again - then after 20 minutes the same thing happens.

I replaced the oil when I got it but I'm thinking of changing it again in case it's got any petrol in it from attempting to start it although when it's running it seems to run fine.

is it safe to try starting it without the air filter? I was thinking of giving the auto choke lever a bit of a wiggle when attempting to start it just to see if that makes any difference

Little update... I've refitted the carb, the mower started on the first turn of the key within the 5 seconds and it no longer hunts.

It's raining now but hopefully tomorrow night I will get a chance to use it for half an hour to warm it up and then see if the problem of it not starting when hot is solved too.

Thanks to Mick and MicksMowers for your time and suggestions  :)

I managed to do a screen shot of the 700 DOV series PDF manual and although the image has the different brand of carb, the setup looks the same and they only use one gasket (K) so I guess it is likely to be a mistake.

Briggs & Stratton - 700 DOV Series Engine Manual - Carb.png

If it did require 2 you would think the B&S parts look up image would have been done like the edited image I've attached on the right.

My float bowl gasket arrived today so I will fit that tonight and see if we are any nearer to getting this thing running as it should  :)

Thanks Mick, I had never heard of them till now

Time for another silly question ;D a few posts ago you gave me the part numbers for the gaskets I need for the carb and one of them says x 2.

Quote from: Mick on May 06, 2023, 06:35:11 PMThe other gasket appears to be 692555 qty x2

I stripped my carb down again this afternoon but it appears the lawnmower only has 1 of them gaskets, not 2.

20230521_190313.jpg

Looks in decent condition so am not sure if it's been replaced previously.

But I can't figure out where the second gasket is supposed to go amongst these parts,

20230521_190424.jpg

20230521_190504.jpg

20230521_190610.jpg

The daft question is... is it possible that 2 gaskets are supposed to be placed together to make one thick gasket?

Or could there be a mistake on the website?

I guess the last owner could have removed it and didn't replace it :-\

The site is called Power Spares and the link is: https://power-spares.co.uk/hyundai-hym430sp-spare-parts/
(they sell bits for other Hyundai mowers too which can be found using the Part Finder dropdowns at the top of the page)

Delivery is £5 but if you spend over £20 it's free  :)
