Honda HF 2417 'Back Firing & Surging'

Hi, I have this NOT a marvellous machine, it's a Honda HF 2417, cost an absolute fortune to buy, an upgrade from my older Honda ride-on which was four years old with 110hrs on the clock. From day one this NEW Hf 2417 mower has backfired, the dealer says that it's because of the new fuel (E10) has too much water in the mixture and there is nothing that they can do. I was told to add a stabiliser and only use fresh petrol. So this mower has fresh fuel and Wynns E10 Protector. It works OK, but not perfect. I have two other petrol mowers a walk behind Honda that runs on anything, this mower is only two years old, yet the HF 2417 fresh out of the box and just over a year old runs terribly.

I have emailed Honda in Ireland, totally not interested, so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced these same problems and what have they used/done to overcome the back firing, as well as intermitent surging only when the blades are not engaged.

Can anyone help, and that would include you Honda Ireland......

Mick

Hi Wexford, and welcome to TGMForum.

The engine should run fine on E10 to be fair. So this has been like this since it came from the the dealer, even when it was running on their fuel at the beginning?

There is a fuel shutoff solenoid on the bottom left side of the carburettor, it might be an idea to see if that is receiving power. It's possible that it's actually closed, and they do tend to stay running but poorly.
