Hello just got a second hand Mountfield Manor 36  with a rs 100 engine but it seems to be running very rich took the plug out very black an sooty  anyone know how to sort this  sorry new to these tillers

Mick

Hi oldbenny, and welcome to TGMForum.

I take it you only just got the machine?  When it was transported was it kept upright?  I mean not laying on its side or tipped forwards etc.  Just wondering if the air filter is full of oil, or fuel.

You could just try removing the air filter and try running it and see if it runs ok like that. The air filter is in the plastic box on the LH side of the engine.

Don't use the machine without cleaning or replacing the filter though.

Thanks it has been cleaned out both the carb and the plug due to oil leaking on delivery will take out the filter and try again  it seems to have an poor tick over and not good at high revs.  what would you think is the cause

Mick

Sounds like it got tumbled about a bit during the delivery, which is what I was thinking in my first reply.  Check also that fuel hasn't found its way into the oil, that will also cause it to run rich.

Hopefully it's just the air filter.  Let me know how it goes.  ;)
