Toro DH210 not starting

Hi

Fairly new to ride on mowers, cutting the grass today, engine dies, schoolboy error, it ran out of petrol.

Topped it up and started no issues, 5 - 10 mins later, engine sounds rough, like it's spluttering, backfires and dies, now refuses to start.

There is a fairly big fuel filter with a clear housing, this hardly has any fuel in it and when the pipe is removed from the carburettor it trickles out the pipe.

Engine turns over fine but doesn't fire, I'm thinking fuel issue but not sure where to start, should the fuel filter housing be full of fuel indicating a blockage before the filter, or could it have air in the pipe after running out?

Appreciate any help

Mick

Hi and welcome to TGMF.

The engine is equipped with a diaphragm fuel pump which only works when the engine is turning. I would start by pulling the hose off the carb again and put the end of the hose in a suitable container then crank it over to see if it's pumping fuel.

The fuel filters never really fill up completely so that's quite normal. It is possible some dirt / grass etc has plugged the outlet on the tank or the filter when it ran out of fuel, unless the tank was completely clean of course.

Was the fuel nice and fresh that filled up with?
