Hi all. I just bought a mac allister 500e of fb market place with a known problem. Im hoping it might just need a carb clean/replacement and/or spark plug change.

Im here to get opinions before i start spending money unnecessarily.

The problem it has is when it fires up tye revs drop low as if its going to die then picks up again. And it keeps doing this constantly.

I did take out the plug and it was black and looked old.

Any help would be appreciated

Mick

Hi Lawn-monkey, and welcome to TGMF.

I'm assuming this isn't the actual model number of the machine, but machine is fitted with a Briggs & Stratton 500E engine, the one with a plastic carburettor?

It's pretty common for these engines to hunt or surge up and down when running and can usually be solved by cleaning the carburettor.  Also make sure it's only running freshly purchased fuel and not fuel left over from last year.

If you could attach a couple of photos of the machine that would be useful, or if you have a video of it running somewhere it will help to diagnose.
