B&S Instart battery

I've inherited a B&S petrol mower with Instart battery starter....
And I'm stuck immediately. How do I remove the battery from the charger base? I've tried'sliding' it out, squeezing the side buttons... can't move it!

Hi and welcome to TGMF.

The batteries can be quite a tight fit where they make connections to the charger.  It's just a case of pulling the battery out of the charger. Put a thumb each side on the base of the charger and extend your fingers over and on the furthest part of the battery and draw the battery towards you.
