ive a honda engine mower 160gcv actualy ive 2 of them one a honda 476 and an old ali deak unit that has the same engine that is the same as the other

both have the same problem that the choke lever does not when moved to choke it does not move the butterfly to the closed point ive tryed meny times ajusting the cable but nothing seams to make any differance all linkages seam to be there

any help on this please do they wear out

Mick

Hi angellonewolf, and welcome to TGMF.

It's a pretty common problem on this manual choke system. If you look at the linkage the cable is connected to you'll notice when putting it into the choke position that linkage makes contact with a little tab sticking out from the choke lever.

Get hold of that tab (end on) with a good pair of needle nose pliers and bend it downwards slightly.  Then check to see if the choke is closing.

ok had a play and been farting around for an hour and then found a sweet spot that then opens does seam very finiky getting the spot the briggs engine are so much eassier for that

now have to replace the fuel pipe before i can try it

Mick

Hope it works out ok.

Thing with Honda is they seem to over complicate their throttle and choke linkages, they always have.  I agree the Briggs stuff is simpler, but also some of the modern Chinese engines, so simple to work on and they just work.

ive all ways had briggs engines older ones there cheap but run welll most of the time and if they go wrong just put another 2nd engine in it for 20 quid the honda have allways been expensive even 2nd hand but they are good a mate of mine does house clearance and got a honda hrb476 in the van non working and was offered it for a 10er i near broke his arm off giving him the moneys
and later that week i was down a boot sale and there was a rover ali deak honda engine the same i paid a 10er as well in a bundle both got grass boxes as well

i want the hrb mower for me as large deak makes quick cutting of the grass but its not getting fuel and the choke on that is the same as the other so get the easy one working and then get the other going
