Ok you lot,  What machines have you been repairing today?  Feel free to post what you've been working on in this thread. Just hit the reply button and add images and a little description.

I have also added a new YouTube channel to run along with this site, and added some of the machines from this topic. You can find it here, https://www.youtube.com/@TGMForum

I'll kick it off then.   ;)

Today, this on my bench, a Hayter Harrier 56, with only half the rear roller driving, one freewheel sprocket slipping and the other seized solid.

Also compensation spring was broken, belts and Variator were completely shot, and usual bits of tin falling out of the Variator.  Blade was also completely worn out beyond belief.

Oh, and prior to the above, the first thing I noticed was you couldn't pull the engine over to start it because it had clumps of grass jammed between the blade and deck, and I suspect this would have been only reason the machine was brought to us in the first place, and if it hadn't jammed the guy would have kept using it in that horrendous state.

Not on my bench today, but a week or two back.  ;) A Weibang Legacy Pro.

Rear rollers weren't driving, and had to dismantle rear roller assembly, fit new outer bearings, and inner plastic bushes.  And dismantle the freewheel assembly in the middle of the shaft because all the ratchet plungers were seized up and stuck flush with the housing, hence not driving the rollers.

A Hayter Spirit.  Wouldn't start + Service  Carb blocked solid.

Then a Hayter Harrier 56 which someone decided to try running on a half petrol, half water combo.  My machine won't start! Hmm wonder why.  ;)

Interesting to see the weibang. How old was it? So basically the ratchets didn't work anymore? Sounds familiar.

I see the 5 holes inside the roller for that black ring to sit in but what's the other 2 holes for?  I'm guessing those shiny bushes sit inside the roller. Similar to those oilite ones inside the new hayters?
The design of that black ring the inside was the same style as inside the rear wheels of my Toro proline which basically acts same sort of thing for the spilt wheel drive mechanism. What's the outer roller bearings like?

Age of the machine, was about two years from memory.  The two smaller grey coloured bushes are the plastic ones which fit in the rollers, the two bigger silvery ones are the outer roller shaft bearings, these are proper ball bearings, not plastic.  The two spare holes n the rollers I'm not sure why they are there, probably tooling holes or something, fo use during manufacture.   Maybe someone with more Weibang knowledge can  enlighten us on this. ;)

A two year old Harrier 56 with Briggs and Stratton InStart engine.

Flashing lights on the battery instead of it actually turning the engine over.   It wasn't the harness issue this time, but a seized starter motor.  This is the second one I've had like this lately.  I suspect the guy has a water leaking through the roof of his shed by the amount of rust on parts of the engine.   Free off and lube up seemed to sort the starter motor for now, runs smoothly.

Last week.  This very sad looking Harrier 41.  Not just the usual one roller bracket broken, this time both roller brackets and the gearbox support bracket, so the whole arse end was hanging out.

Only one carful owner.  ???

I have always thought the Harrier to be much over rated.
Poor collection, poor belt drive, weak gearbox, weak axle supports and weak plastic under body panels.
Apart from that it's a fantastic machine!

Mick

lol..   Barrie, you like them then.  ;)  I must say I was glad to see them move away from the two belt and variator system in the newer models, but they appear to come with a new set of issues which I hope they actually get around to fixing this time.

They should have given a few machines to some of our customers, they would soon find out if the machine is up to the job.   ;)

Had this little Viking mower in yesterday, customer said it it kept cutting out.

I'm surprised it even started for him to be honest, just kicked like a mule for me when I tried it..  Can't think why. lol..  :hmm:

Something which really irritated me a lot, and I'm going to guess there'll be a few pissed off customers around the corner.. .  A Briggs & Stratton InStart starter motor.   Remember there's no recoil backup, so you can't start your mower without this.

Literally five minutes and you can have this plastic gear sitting in your hand, but it's going to cost you roughly £67 to replace because in their wisdom decided not to make it a separate part, and you have to buy the whole starter motor.  WTF is going on in this world.

All about the £ margins why make at £2 gear and sell it for  £10 when you can make a whole motor for £15 and sell it for £67. Like most modern crap made in China and designed to fail and be replaced often.
