Honda HR173 - Poor Running

hello all,

I have a Honda HR173 that only likes to run with the air filter element and top cover removed. If the top cover is placed on the air box the engine starts to run 'lumpy'. This would indicate that it is not getting enough air when the lid and element are fitted. Could this be a carburetor fault or is there something I am missing here?

Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks

Kevin

Hi Kevin.  Wondering if you have some fuel in the sump due to a flooding carb, that will breath fuel vapour down the intake and make it run rich.

Hi Mick,

You were spot-on. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself.

Many thanks

That's a result then. You just got to cure the flooding issue, or get them to turn fuel off after using the mower.
